DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CONTINUES
POST-IVAN COMMUNITY REDEMPTION PROGRAMME
"Operation Give Back"

The Department of Youth Development in the Prime Minister’s Office is continuing to provide assistance and bring hope to the needy in our communities.

Several activities organised under the Department’s "Post-Ivan Community Redemption Programme" are underway and Officers of the Department say they are pleased with the level of response received.

Mr. Cecil Greenidge, Coordinator of Youth, says the Programme is a bold initiative to contribute in a tangible way to the relief effort and the restoration and reconstruction of the Nation.

"From the depths of despair we shall rise again and achieve our goal of one people, one Nation," Mr. Greenidge declared.

Thus far, the Department has been able to distribute food hampers, organise and mobilise clean-up operations in several communities and repair the homes of some homeless persons.

The Department continues to partner with the Ministry of Social Development in the delivery of the wellness programme and is planning a Sports Day to be held in each parish.

As a means of assisting in educational restoration, the Department has adopted the South St. George Government School and a holistic programme aimed at student personal development and readjustment is underway.

The Post-Ivan Community Redemption Programme, which was officially launched on October 11, is an initiative of the Department of Youth Development to contribute to the rehabilitation of the Country in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan.
